I think the only difference is that Gothic music is essentially dark, sad and pessimistic or aggressive music. Gothic rock is dark and Gothic Dark Metal to.
The thing is that the music is a mysterious force that is trying to play dumb, identification and classification in a particular genre. Music can be crossed to a different genre, so do not forget to enjoy the genre and the music!
